Saki and Kanon are walking around town when a sudden gust blows some flyers for a hair salon toward them. The two girls gather them up and return them to the owner, a salon apprentice, who unexpectedly asks Saki if she would come to the salon to sit for a test cut. Saki agrees, and when she visits the salon later that week, the young stylist recounts a story about a 'friend' who fell in love with one of her female classmates during their school days. Could she be trying to tell Saki something...?

One day while having lunch in the Literature Club room, Kanon learns about a surprising club tradition from Miura-sensei. Every year, club members spend summer break writing something for the school's literature contest. Miura-sensei surprises Kanon even further by complimenting her writing and encouraging her to enter something for that year's contest. Though Kanon is initially reluctant, countering that she has never written a story before, she later finds herself mulling over everything that's happened since she lost her hearing and met Saki. Could there be a story in there somewhere? Meanwhile, Saki gets roped into playing piano for the upcoming choir contest. Now she just has to find the perfect song... and hope her classmates can accept Kanon in the choir.

Summer break has finally begun, and Kanon and Saki throw themselves into preparing for the upcoming choir contest. When Tanabe suggests setting up a maid caf? for their school festival project, the three friends decide to head downtown to look at maid outfits. What with conductor practice, shopping excursions, and spending almost every minute with Saki, Kanon is actually starting to enjoy summer in a way she never did before. The only thing that could burst this happy bubble is an unexpected encounter with her classmate, Tomita, who usually treats her with scorn. Could there be more to Tomita's story than she's letting on?

Saki left her last encounter with Kanon red-faced and reeling, after an offhand comment by Kanon almost laid bare Saki's long-simmering feelings. Has Kanon finally learned the truth? When Saki sees a flyer for a fireworks festival, she remembers how Kanon once lamented not being able to enjoy festivals after losing her hearing. Saki then decides to invite Kanon over to watch the fireworks from her balcony, and Kanon happily agrees. As the sky above explodes with bursts of color, Kanon and Saki draw ever closer...
