Heavy rains force Polly Plum and her valet Montgolfier Handgraves to seek lodging in a small town on their way back to Worcester, Massachusetts. Polly soons discoveries she has arrived on the night of young socialite Lionel Hampstead's apparent suicide. Troubled by dreams concerning his death and haunted by his spectre, Polly and Handgraves soon discover Lionel Hampstead may have not only been the victim of foul play - but that there's something sinister lurking in the past of Hampstead himself and his bride-to-be, Ivy Proust. Loosely based on the events of a crime that occured in Spencer, MA in 1899.
